Why so Choosey?

When we only come up with a 15% acceptance rate, you have to wonder, "Why bother with BestWebQuests?" Well, to be honest, it's because there's only a 15% acceptance rate that we believe this is important. Heaps of very talented and hard-working educators have spent loads of time creating Web-based activities that are "almost WebQuests." We're the first to admit, there's nothing holy about WebQuests when Working the Web for Education, but when you want students to transform newly acquired information into new understanding, you DO want to use a Webquest (not an "almost WebQuest"). Because when you put a lot of effort into something, you want it to work.

As of this date, Tom March and his colleagues have worked through many WebQuest directories, sorting, one might say, "the best from the rest." The largest of them are listed here for reference:
http://webquest.sdsu.edu/matrix.html
http://www.richmond.edu/academics/a&s/education/projects/artenglish.html
http://www.itdc.sbcss.k12.ca.us/curriculum/webquest.html
http://www.west.asu.edu/achristie/wqmatrix.html
http://www.west-bend.k12.wi.us/webquest/
http://www.milforded.org/teachers_rooms/wq.asp
http://www.curriculumsupport.nsw.edu.au/learningtechnologies/webquests/quests.htm
http://www.esc-scnh.net//WebQuestsESC-SCNH.html
http://www.esc-scnh.net/WebQuests7.21.03.htm
http://www.fsu.edu/~CandI/ENGLISH/web.htm

As you can imagine, this is a slow process of locating, looking for red flags, critiquing against our evaluation matrix and then logging each WebQuest into the BestWebQuests collection or a database of near misses.

In going through the above directories we discovered we were running across many of the same WebQuests cross-referenced on many lists. Thus we like to invite individuals to submit WebQuests they believe help students transform information into understanding.

Thanks for your interest,

Tom -- P.S. - Notice that BWQU (BestWebQuests University) is now open. This is where we share what we have learned from creating dozens of WebQuests and reviewing hundreds of others.
